How to transport antiques without the fuss

Roadie sends a Driver right to your door to pick up your antique, and that same friendly person will deliver it right to the door of the recipient. That means you don’t have to waste money on packing peanuts and specialty shipping boxes. You also don’t have to go through the hassle of waiting in line to ship your items.

A few tips on how to transport antiques with Roadie
  • Secure Loose or Delicate Parts. Tape down or wrap any loose parts, especially for delicate pieces.
  • Remove Bulbs From Lamps. If you’re sending an antique lamp, remove the bulb and wrap the cord around the stem.
  • Clear a Pathway. For heavy or bulky furniture, be sure to clear a path to the front door by moving rugs or other furniture out of the way. Consider using furniture sliders.
  • Any Paperwork? If you’re selling an antique that has a receipt or paperwork such as care and maintenance instructions, be sure to give that to your Driver.

The Driver will take a photo of your antique on both ends of the trip. And our app has real-time tracking plus a signature confirmation, so you’ll know your antiques are in good hands. But more than that, Roadie automatically adds $500 of insurance to your delivery with the option to purchase additional coverage up to $10,000 through UPS Capital.

Stories from the road

  • Saving hundreds on door-to-door antique delivery

Lisa recently bought a larger home in Holly Springs, MS, and wanted to fill it with richly colored 19th Century wooden furniture. She found four antique chairs at a small online store in Stantonsburg, NC, that would perfectly compliment her dining room table. But they were 787 miles away, and she worried that traditional shipping would cost as much as the chairs — and she was nervous about rough handling.

Lisa researched how to ship antique furniture affordably, and recalled hearing about Roadie. She posted a Gig, and Driver Christopher accepted it for $200. He followed her instructions to a tee, carefully wrapping the delicate chairs and protecting them under a tarp while he drove to Holly Springs and delivered them to Lisa’s door the very next day.

  • Traveling to Texas on a budget

While visiting family in the north Georgia town of Dahlonega, Marsha decided to pop into local antique stores. She had never bought an antique before and was looking to add character to her home in Kyle, TX.

She was delighted to stumble upon a blue cherrywood fireplace mantel, which would add the exact pop of color she wanted in her living room. Before buying it, Marsha needed to figure out how to transport antiques all the way to her home 1,035 miles away. After a quick Google search, she found Roadie and posted a Gig. She was happy to see that it would only cost $247 to transport such an awkward, oversized delivery to her home in the Lone Star State.

Roadie Driver David frequently passes through Georgia and Texas on his usual work route and offered to deliver the mantel, which fit just fine in his spacious box truck. Five days later, David delivered the mantel to Marsha’s door.
