Roadie, Inc. announced it won the Red Herring Top 100 North America Award earlier this month in San Diego, at an annual event that recognizes the year’s most exciting and innovative technology companies from the U.S. and Canada. Roadie was selected among thousands of entrants and hundreds of finalists for its transformative business model, which has the potential to disrupt the $90B shipping industry struggling to address the needs of the growing on-demand economy. Roadie is an “on-the-way” delivery network that connects people with items to send with drivers already heading in the right direction.

Founder and CEO Marc Gorlin presented to the Red Herring judging panel, and had this to say about the award, “We are thrilled to be acknowledged among such an impressive group of our peers, crossing every sector of technology from mobile and cloud computing to biomedical. Roadie is committed to building a strong, national community and a seamless user experience while revealing a transportation heat map that provides consumers and businesses a more cost efficient, faster, greener way to get what they need, when they need it. We hope to continue building momentum in the industry, and growing our nationwide community through 2015 and beyond.”

Red Herring Top 100 Awards are considered one of the technology industry’s most prestigious honors. Previous winners include Google, Twitter, NetSuite, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, eBay as well as leaders in cloud computing, mobile and big data.

“In 2015, selecting the top achievers was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “In fact, we had the toughest time in years because so many entrepreneurs had crossed significant milestones so early. But after much thought, rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across North America to the North American winners. We believe Roadie embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. Roadie should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong.”

Red Herring’s editorial staff evaluated companies on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as financial performance, technological innovation and intellectual property, DNA of the founders, business model, customer footprint and addressable market. A review of the track record and standing of startups relative to their sector peers, allowed Red Herring to see past the “buzz” and make the list a valuable instrument of discovery and advocacy for the most promising new business models in North America, complement this assessment of potential.

Roadie is the newest entrant in the sharing economy, and the first”on-the-way” delivery network. The mobile app leverages a collaborative model, now trusted by 68% of consumers worldwide including more than half of all people in North America, according to a Nielsen survey.
